Safetor Anchor Multi System (SAMS)

Provisional Patent Number: 759842

Design

The Safetor Anchor Multi System (SAMS) is a system that is designed to convert standard Safetor anchor points into intermediate anchors that run a horizontal lifeline while still providing the anchor points. SAMS can be attached to most of the pre-existing Safetor Roof Anchor product line that are in service on buildings today. The fully installed system provides a horizontal lifeline along with fall-arrest anchor points, abseil anchor points and rescue anchor points all in a single system.

Safetor Anchor Multi System Standard Plate

The Safetor Anchor Multi System (SAMS) is another Collins Corporation Ltd world first in height safety.

Safety value

Collins Corp takes height safety very seriously, as indicated in the products we have designed to date. Our product is the first multi functioning system to combine a fall arrest, abseil, recovery and horizontal lifeline system all into one, so this system has a greater safety value which combines a full multi system at the time of installation. It can also be retrofitted easily to our existing Structural, Tri-Chem or Poly panel anchors.

Under the health and safely regulations

When working at height, you cannot work in fall arrest as so many people do with other systems. By using our Safetor Multi-line system we can offer everybody a secondary system to further reduce risk of serious harm or injury. The system also offers an instant recovery anchor point if a user does fall.

Features of the Safetor Multi system

  • Lifeline system
  • Each anchor can be used for Fall-arrest
  • Each anchor can be used for Abseiling
  • All Intermediate anchors can be used as recovery anchors
  • The line system can be easily retrofitted to existing Safetor Anchors
  • All Intermediate anchors have an eye on either side of the main anchor eyes so people can work from either side at the same time.
  • People can travel around the line system while others utilize the rest of the system at the same time.

Safetor Shock Absorber
Safetor Shock Absorber

Safetor Shock absorber

The ends of the SAMS system have specific shock absorbers in place that are designed take a series of impacts while still providing shock absorption. The system is attached at the ends to the same 30mm diameter shaft anchors that the rest of the system is attached to. When load is put on the shock absorbers, the sections will expand to allow for three separate impacts from three people falling on the line system. By adding an extra shock absorber at the other end of the line system you can have up to six people on the system at the same time.

System Compatibility

The Safetor Anchor Multi System (SAMS) was designed with the current Safetor anchor range in mind. The SAMS system works with any of our anchors with a 30mm diameter shaft, which includes a wide and varied range of Structural, Concrete and Coolstore anchors proudly lead by our flagship SE015. A shuttle can be easily attached to the horizontal line, which then easily travels around the system utilizing a raised tube that allows for the shuttle to travel over the anchor attachments. The SAMS attachments come in a variety of different types from straights to corners allowing for the shuttle to glide around corners and even over intersecting lines.

System Installation

The lifeline attachment brackets are connected to the standard anchor eye using a threaded eye bolt and eye nut. The threaded eye bolt passes through a specially designed washer that holds the threaded eye in place on the front side of the anchor while a threaded eye nut On the reverse side of the anchor the attachment plate that the line will run through this plate is held in place by a combination of a lock tab washer and our specially designed hex eye. The hex eye is fastened to the eye bolt with the lock tab washers tabs bent over to hold it firmly in place with the attachment plate.

When the line is run through the raised tube at the top of the lifeline the shuttle can glide over the top of the tube without interruption. The plastic inserts that provide an angle up towards the tube prevent the shuttle from getting stuck on the metal tube.

Both the eye bolt and the hex eye can be attached off of. This provides two fixed anchor points on opposite sides of the anchor allowing the user to utilize either side of the anchor at any time. The attachment plates can be rotated and attached on any side allowing for the same standard plates to be used regardless of the base anchors orientation.

When installing the line system the attachment plates should be installed so the raised tube is closer to the center of the roof. When loading is placed on the attachment plates the raised portion of the tube will bend behind the anchor allowing for the structure of the anchor to reinforce and provide more strength to the line.

When a fall occurs

If a fall occurs while traveling along the line the system is designed to utilize a number of features in its design to safely stop the fall. The attachment plates bend backwards towards the center of the roof trapping the line behind the anchors to prevent it from extending over the roof edge in the case of serious load. The second feature that will activate on the initial fall is the shock absorber will begin to extend. This extension in the shock absorber will take a significant portion of the falls load. Some of the metal bars attached to the shock absorber will break away allowing for the coil to extend. The bar is in place so that when the first fall occurs the entire shock absorption isn’t expended after just one fall. This extension in the shock absorber will cause the line to expand slightly allowing for a load reducing “V” to be formed further reducing the loading on the line system.

After the fall has occurred the immediate concern is recovery. The line is separated using intermediate anchors allowing for another person to travel along the line to where the initial span where fall occurred. Since the line is rated for one user per span the rescuer must then connect to a fixed anchor point provided by our line in the form of either the eye bolt or the hex eye.

Vertical Line System Integration

The Safetor Anchor Multi System (SAMS) has an attachment plate designed work in conjunction with vertical line systems. The cross attachment plate provides a secondary raised bracket allowing for a vertical line to be fed through. The vertical line can be used to attach a ladder system to the Safetor Anchor Multi System. The vertical line can be traveled across directly to the cross plate intersection where the horizontal lifeline shuttle can be attached to.

This increased safety functionality provides the means to switch between the two systems while always being attached to one or the other at all times. The ladder system can be ascended and traveled until horizontal system is reached at which time the shuttle can be attached and the full functionality of the horizontal lifeline come into effect.

Corner Plate

The Safetor Anchor Multi System (SAMS) have specialized corner attachment plates. These corner plates are designed to allow the wire rope around the corner while still having anchor points for the user to attach their carabineer to.

The top of the plate has a cross shaped hole in it so that it can be placed over the top of the anchor in two different ways providing a raised tube on any corner it is required. A slotted plate washer is put over the top of the plate to protect it from scratches and to strengthen it. Once the plates have been placed it is fastened in place using a pair of dome washers threaded by an M16 bolt and accompanying dome nut.

The horizontal lifeline wire is threaded through the desired raised tube. The allows the shuttle to glide over the corner plate in the same manner as the rest of the system. On the bottom of the attachment plate there are two anchor points providing the full system functionality even on a corner.
